We are happy to announce that The Alliance for Eating Disorders Awareness ("The Alliance"), a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, will be starting a Postdoctoral Fellowship Program under the supervision of Joann Hendelman, PhD, RN, FAED, CEDS, CEDRN, on August 15, 2017. The program will be based at 1649 Forum Place, Suite 10, West Palm Beach, FL 33401.
This fellowship will be focused on the care of individuals and their loved ones suffering from eating disorders. Individuals suffering from eating disorders represent a complex and heterogeneous population, one which challenges clinicians at all levels of ability. The Alliance will provide outpatient treatment for adults, female and male, who present with various eating disorder behaviors, as well as other co-morbidities. Modalities of treatment offered at The Alliance will include individual, couples, and family therapy, nutritional counseling, and a variety of group psychotherapies.
The Alliance will offer a 12 month Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. Two positions are available for each calendar year. These 40+ hour per week positions enable fellows to accrue up to 2,000 license-eligible hours of supervised practice during the course of their training. The program will allow the fellow to develop a comfort level working with this population. Fellows will function as valued members of a clinical team. As such, the fellow will operate with a significant degree of autonomy and responsibility while maintaining close contact with the Clinical Director.
The training experience is designed to strengthen fellows' competencies as clinicians using assessment, psychotherapy, case management, and treatment team membership in each of the following areas:
Aim 1: Fellows will achieve competence in the area of Evidence-Based Practice in Intervention at the independent practice entry level.
Aim 2: Fellows will achieve competence in the area of Ethical and Legal Standards at the independent practice entry level.
Aim 3: Fellows will achieve competence in the area of Interprofessional and Interdisciplinary Consultation and Supervision at the independent practice entry level.
Aim 4: Fellows will achieve competence in the area of Individual and Cultural Diversity at the independent practice entry level.
Aim 5: Fellows will achieve competence in the area of Communication and Interpersonal Skills at the independent practice entry level.
Aim 6: Fellows will achieve competence in the area of a Professional Identity as a Psychologist at the independent practice entry level.
Aim 7: Fellows will achieve competence in the area of the Treatment of Eating Disorders.
Upon successful completion of their year-long training program, fellows are equipped to provide treatment for this population within an eating disorders treatment program or in private practice.
Stipend and Benefits
Each fellowship position earns a stipend of $35,000 in addition to two weeks of paid vacation, six paid sick days, and seven paid holidays. Details on accruing vacation, sick, and holiday pay will be discussed at the time of the interview. There is an additional $2,500 expense budget for conferences and training outside of The Alliance.
