About The Walks
"The walk for me was one of the most uplifting and emotional events that I have ever attended.  The incredible strength of those who suffer and walked along with us was an inspiration to me.  If only one person heard the message that recovery is possible that is enough to make a difference."  - S.G.
It is estimated that more than 32.5 million Americans are currently battling eating disorders, with more than 700,000 in Florida alone.  Eating disorders know no boundaries with respect to sex, race, age, sexual orientation, or economic status, and have the highest mortality rate of all psychiatric disorders. However, with proper detection, access to care, and treatment, full recovery is possible.
The Alliance is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, headquartered in South Florida, that is dedicated to providing programs and activities related to health promotion, including all eating disorders, positive body image, and self-esteem.
Your participation in the walk will help early intervention of eating disorders and reduce the shame and stigma associated with them by allowing The Alliance to offer presentations, free support groups, advocacy for mental health legislation, toll-free national phone help line, referrals, trainings, mentoring services, and more. Since its inception in October 2000, The Alliance has presented to more than 270,000 individuals throughout the United States.
