How To Be Supportive
Just because your child develops an eating disorder, it DOES NOT mean you have failed as a parent. Try not to blame yourself and realize that there are many causes that contribute to the development of an eating disorder. Remember to focus on helping your child get better and to be proactive.
It is also important that you, the family and friends of someone going through an eating disorder, get help and support for yourselves. Please consider attending family therapy, and/or a family and friends support group. (Link to Support Groups: Getting Help/Support Groups) It is crucial that you maintain your physical and emotional health so you can help your loved one when he/she needs you.
And do not forget, help is available and recovery is possible.
